Butler County’s first sheriff was appointed in 1854, but it wasn’t until this June that Butler County’s first female patrol deputy was appointed. The woman who earned that distinction is Brittany Froning.
“Reserve Deputy Froning is the first female Patrol Deputy that we have had here at the Sheriff’s Office, and she earned that position because of the skill set that she possesses,” Sherriff Jason Johnson said. “Brittany is calm under pressure, stern when necessary, aware of her surroundings and exhibits excellent skills with all manner of firearms.”
Froning started working at the Sheriff’s Office in 2014 as a jailer and dispatcher. According to Sherriff Johnson, she demonstrated a great work ethic and ability to multi-task. Froning started training as a patrol deputy in January and earned her badge in the middle of June. Training, she said was interesting. While she learned a lot in classes, she has learned even more on the job.
Originally from a farm near Dumont, in her spare time Froning enjoys spending time outdoors, hunting, working on old vehicles, fixing up cars, spending time with her family and taking care of her child.
