Flint Hills Resources in Shell Rock welcomed over 500 guests for lunch and tours of the ethanol plant on August 8 for its second annual open house.
“It’s an awesome opportunity to get the community together and show customers our appreciation,” said Vice President Jeremy Bezdek. “We reinvest in the community, support local corn growers, and feed them lunch.”
And it was a delicious lunch at that, with pulled pork sandwiches, beans, mashed potatoes and ice cream.
Flint Hills Resources employs about 50 at the Shell Rock plant, making it one of the largest industrial employers in Butler County. The company employs 600 at their seven ethanol plants throughout Iowa and 4000 on a broader spectrum. Flint Hills acquired the Shell Rock plant (built in 2008) in 2010. They buy a majority of their corn within a 30-mile radius of the plant.
