Clarksville School budget passed

The Clarksville School Board approved a property tax rate of $13.86991 per $1,000 assessed valuation for the 2016-2017 school year following a public hearing on April 14. For the 2015-2016 school year, the school district had proposed to levy about $13.57 per $1,000 but ended up levying about $13.50 per $1,000, county combined property tax rates show.
The property tax amount collected district-wide has risen by about 8 percent a year over three years — $100,000 a year — to the estimated $1,29 million collection in fiscal 2017, the school budget summary shows.
The school district’s share of income surtax will be 12 percent for fiscal 2017, up from 9 percent total this fiscal year. That’s because of a 3 percent increase in the instructional support portion of income surtax from 6 percent in fiscal 2016 (current year) to 9 percent in fiscal 2017. The 3 percent voted physical plant and equipment levy surtax remains the same as the current year. Since the preliminary budget was set, the state set its supplemental aid at 2.25 percent, and the new ratio of instructional support income surtax and PPEL was calculated from that.
