Celebrate County Conservation this summer

The Butler County Conservation Board met at the Nature Center at Heery Woods near Clarksville on Wednesday, May 7. Tom Hazelton, CEO of the Iowa County Conservation System, gave a presentation on the history of county conservation and the extent of its impact today.
     Young and old alike have many wonderful memories of visiting the Nature Center on field trips and spending time with family and friends at the park. This season the Nature Center features new improvements and exhibits, made possible through the efforts of county conservation. Visit the Nature Center, Heery Woods, and other parks in Butler County this summer to enjoy a refreshing taste of the outdoors.
     One project in the works at present in Butler County is the paving of the Rolling Prairie Bike Trail from Allison to Bristow. Lake dredging at the Shell Rock Park is planned for this summer.
     Iowa County Conservation is partnering with the Iowa Tourism Office in celebration of Iowa’s County Park System with the 99 Counties, 99 Parks Campaign from April through August. As a part of this campaign, selfie stations will be available at many county parks across the state with convenient ledges to set your phone, set a timer, and get a great selfieYou can share your photos with the hashtags #THISISIOWA and #MyCountyParks. The Butler County selfie station is at Beaver Meadows Park in Parkersburg.
