Butler County welcomes new EMA Coordinator

It’s been two weeks since Chris Showalter of Dumont took the reins as Butler County Emergency Management Coordinator, replacing Mitch Nordmeyer, who resigned at the end of March to accept a position as State Training Officer with Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management.
     “I think he was a great choice, and he’ll be good for Butler County…” said Supervisor Tom Heidenwirth, referring to Showalter. “He knows the people, and he knows the county.”
     Showalter has served as a volunteer fireman in Dumont for 10 years and on the Dumont City Council for seven years. His diversified wealth of knowledge in everything from management to mechanics will prove an asset in his new position.
            Originally from a farm between Hampton and Sheffield, after graduating from high school, Showalter served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He helped his dad on the farm, and then worked in a variety of jobs. He was a tractor technician at Phelps Implement for a little over nine years and worked as a shop supervisor at Mulford Concrete for three years before taking a job as an HVAC technician for a heating and plumbing business for four and a half years.  In his spare time, he enjoys hunting and weekend getaways with family.
