Bearcats honor Smith before triangular

GREENE – On a night in which North Butler-Clarksville honored retiring head coach Gordy Smith, the visiting teams played the spoiler.
Smith, who intends to retire after the season following 33 years of coaching, was recognized prior to the triangular with Crestwood and North Fayette Valley on Tuesday, Dec. 18.
He was introduced before the meet and it was announced the wrestling room will be re-named in his honor and was presented with a commemorative sign to mark the occasion.
Before the meet and after the ceremony, several of Smith’s former wrestlers came forward to shake the coach’s hand and the current and former team members took time for a group picture to mark the event.
Smith said everything came as a bit of a shock.
“It was a surprise,” Smith said. “It was a pretty neat thing to have done. I know (assistant coach) Frank (Kisley) and my daughter had a lot to do with it. Seeing all those guys from the past come back was awesome..."
