EAGLE GROVE – Many of the North Butler cross country team runners raced to personal bests at the Class 1A state qualifier at Eagle Grove, but the sheer quality of runners bested the Bearcats at the end.
The top finish among the boys and girls for coach Kirk Clark’s team was 43rd, short of the top-15 individuals who advanced to this week’s state cross country meet at Fort Dodge’s Kennedy Park.
Devon Huberg was the first across the line for North Butler, clocking in at 19 minutes, 37.16 seconds for his finish. Eric Brehmer was right behind him (44th), a little more than a second back.
Rounding out team scoring, in which North Butler turned in a ninth-place team finish out of 20 full squads, were Dylan Clipperton (47), Trevor Brinkman (53) and Colby Wilkerson (55).
