Antidote for opioid overdose now allowed more places in Iowa

Inpatient treatment center would like to add access, medication assisted treatment
With news reports of overdose death increases from prescription and street opioids, now an antidote is more widely available legally in Iowa. OPIOIDS AND U.S.: According to Centers for Disease Control, opioids were involved in 28,647 deaths in 2014, and opioid overdoses have quadrupled since 2000.
IOWA: In 2013, Iowa had 275 drug overdose deaths. In 2014, it had 264 overdose deaths, a 5.4 percent decrease, according to the latest data available from CDC, reviewed on May 2, 2016.
In the past two years, Pathways Behavioral Services has anecdotally seen people seeking treatment for opioid addiction more frequently than prior, Director Chris Hoffman said, for both voluntary and court-ordered treatment. Pathways operates a main office in Waterloo and one of its satellite offices in Allison.
