Allison’s Wilder Park was alive with music on Sunday evening, as the Glenn Miller Orchestra drew an estimated 825 listeners from around the region.
License plates were spotted from Butler, Bremer, Black Hawk, Chickasaw, Grundy, Floyd, Franklin, Scott, Clayton and Polk counties, Colorado, Arizona, Tennessee and Texas.
Dr. George North, President of the Wilder Park Board, said this was one of the biggest crowds a Wilder Park concert has seen since the orchestra’s first performance there.
The world-famous big band performed many of their all-time favorites, from “Chattanooga Choo Choo” to “Pennsylvania 6-5000.” Other selections included “Tuxedo Junction,” “I’m Stepping Out with a Memory Tonight” and “Sentimental Journey.” The orchestra also recognized veterans and performed a rendition of “American Patrol.”
