CLARKSVILLE – The Class 1A No. 9 AGWSR girls’ basketball team hit rock bottom on Jan. 8 in a 35-25 loss at West Marshall and that is the point where the Cougars regrouped and said, ‘no more.’
They showed they meant it as coach Laurie Gann’s squad came into then-No. 6 Clarksville and led from start to finish in a 50-43 victory over the previously one-loss Indians on Monday, Jan. 14.
With the right game-plan, shutting down top-15 Class 1A scorer Kori Wedeking, particularly in the second half, AGWSR executed that to perfection as the Indians’ junior guard was held to 1-of-12 from the field in the final 16 minutes at the Cougars improved to 9-4 overall.
“That was the key, we knew if we maintained the lead, they were going to want to go to her even more,” Gann said. “So, I can’t say enough about the defense.."
