For Madison Johnson of Aplington, spending long days on the fairgrounds was nothing new. She has shown cattle at the Butler County Fair for years. But being crowned Butler County Fair Queen came as a surprise–and a dream come true.
“I’ve been going to the fair for as long as I can remember, and even after winning the beef show multiple times throughout the years, this year has no doubt been the best of all,” Johnson said. “I’ve loved absolutely every moment of being queen.”
Johnson was crowned as the fair kicked off on Tuesday. First runner-up was Miss Allison Emy Osterbuhr. Second runner-up was Diana Mulder of Parkersburg, and Miss Congeniality was Lauren Hawker of Greene.
These young ladies, along with Miss Clarksville Emma Poppe, Miss Shell Rock Katy Kellum, Miss New Hartford Lydia Huntington, Miss Dumont Breck Angstman and Miss Austinville Samantha Quandt, went through various phases of judging Tuesday afternoon, with personal interviews, formal interviews and group interviews. They were judged throughout the day on mannerism and how they interacted with others.
